WhistlePig, in partnership with Traeger, the original wood pellet grill company, recently introduced SmokeStock as the world’s first Traeger wood fired whiskey.

The BBQ lover in me rejoiced… but my marketing hype meter was in full on skeptic mode as they claimed it to be “a whiskey-loving pit master’s smoky dream come true!”

Does it live up to the claim? Watch their promo video and then read my full review below.

WhistlePig SmokeStock Whiskey Tasting Notes:

Age: NAS

Proof: 86

Color: Dark amber to light caramel

Nose: I was initially disappointed when I took my first whiff because I got nothing. Maybe I was expecting too much given past experiences in my own smoke infusion experiments, which admittedly is drastically different than WP’s 2 step process mentioned in the video above.

Palate: It’s the perfect balance of infused smoke in that it doesn’t overpower and still lets the flavor of the rye out for a minute before the finish comes along.

Finish: This is where I feel the bottle truly shines… and my friends all agreed, it literally tasted like we had just finished eating some delicious smokey brisket. It was like pouring liquid brisket in your mouth.
